Platform notes

Overview

NeuroCenter® EEG is accessible across various platforms, and we aim to provide a comprehensive feature set on all supported systems. However, certain functionalities may be restricted due to limited third-party support or inherent platform constraints. Below, you will find a detailed examination of platform-specific considerations that are important to note.

browser-icon-black-20241029-144722.png Web browser

NeuroCenter® EEG in the web browser (https://neurocenter.app) offers a complete, zero-install version of the NeuroCenter® EEG package. Due to the inherent nature of web browsers and their security protocols, NeuroCenter® EEG operates within a sandboxed environment. This configuration results in limitations regarding communication with connected amplifiers, and as a consequence, recording functionalities are not supported. When managing files from the local file system, it is essential to understand that these files are 'uploaded' into the cache memory of your browser. Should modifications occur (for instance, if an annotation is altered), the updated file must be 'downloaded' back to your local file system. For further details, please refer to this section.

It is important to note that while using a web browser may suggest online operation, NeuroCenter® EEG functions locally within your browser, ensuring that no data is exposed externally.

When engaging with advanced analyses, it is essential to transfer raw EEG data to the eeg.services Cloud Analysis Framework for processing, as these analyses may be too complex to execute locally. For further understanding, please refer to the comparison chart provided below.

The supported browsers include:

  • Chrome-based version >= 131

  • Firefox version >= 134

  • Safari version >= 18

NeuroCenter® EEG is compatible with Microsoft Windows versions 10 and 11, requiring a 64-bit version of the operating system.

Many plugins utilized in NeuroCenter® EEG necessitate the installation of the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable package. If you encounter issues with unavailable plugins while other functionalities operate as intended, it is advisable to verify the installation of this package. The most recent version can be acquired through the following link: https://aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x64.exe

image-20250113-170031.png Enterprise Linux

NeuroCenter® EEG supports Enterprise Linux and its derivatives, such as Rocky Linux, Scientific Linux, and Alma Linux. The supported major version is 9.

image-20250113-170102.png macOS

NeuroCenter® EEG is compatible with macOS Sequoia and later versions. However, it is important to note that support for macOS may be limited and is likely a version or two behind other supported platforms. Additionally, macOS has restricted support for some of the more advanced analyses.

Hardware Acceleration for Analyses

To enhance the efficiency of Deep Learning-based analyses, support for NVIDIA CUDA is provided. For Windows operating systems, this support is included in the MSI installation package. Conversely, for Linux distributions, a separate support package can be found in the download repository. It is essential to install CUDA version 12 on both Windows and Linux platforms, as this is the only version currently tested and supported.

[1] Local files are ‘uploaded’ into the web browser’s sandbox upon opening. When modifications are made to the file, it necessitates a manual download afterwards. For further details, please refer to this section.

[2] The eeg.services Cloud Analysis Framework is utilized for processing. In this secure online analysis environment, only the raw EEG data is examined, ensuring that no patient data is transmitted.

[3] Support for macOS is somewhat constrained and is likely one or two versions behind the mainstream offerings available on other platforms. It is advisable to utilize the browser-based version when operating on macOS.
